Marina Del Rey is a quaint, tranquil seaside community in Los Angeles, California. But while it may offer the beauty of an oceanside neighborhood, it is always bustling because of its large harbor and being home to some fantastic water sports.
If you are visiting the seaside community, taking a boat rides in Marina Del Rey is one of the must-do activities that should be added to everyone’s bucket list. So pack your bags with oceanic boat wear and head to Marina Del Rey for some tranquil afternoons on the water.

When should you book a Marina Del Rey cruise?
While Marina Del Rey is pleasant all year round, it does have very distinct seasonal changes. If you are hoping to hop on the water during the hottest months of the year, then visit between August and November. You’ll likely be able to work up a great tan while laying on the deck.
If you prefer the cooler months, then a visit between November and February is better suited. Either way, you’re sure to have a lovely experience out on the water.
Best Boat Cruise in Marina Del Rey Options
Marina Del Rey boat rides come in all different shapes and sizes, and there are options to suit any pocket. These are some of my favorite boat rides in Marina Del Rey.
Los Angeles Champagne Brunch Cruise from Marina Del Rey
If you are hoping to enjoy the feeling of the fresh ocean breeze on your face and sunshine on your skin, then booking a private table on a brunch yacht cruise from Marina Del Rey is ideal. You will get to enjoy views of the harbor and expansive ocean, as well as the city skyline on the shore.
On this 2-hour cruise, you’ll be served a breakfast buffet with loads of tasty treats to choose from. The Pasta Al Forno was a personal favorite of mine, but there are plenty of options to choose from.
The cruise includes bottomless champagne or sparkling cider which is a real treat. For this reason, I chose to set out on the mid-morning cruise rather than the one for early risers. Either way, you’ll get to enjoy a boozy brunch out on the water.
My favorite part of this trip:
seeing the city from the ocean while it was still half asleep. Oh, and the champagne of course!
Los Angeles Night Cruise in Marina del Rey with Dinner
A night cruise in Marina Del Rey is by far one of the most romantic things you can do in Marina Del Rey. The tour starts by taking to the water on a luxury yacht under the stars. And once the yacht has left the harbor, you’re treated to spectacular views of the city skyline glowing in the distance. Depending on the time of departure, you may be treated to a magnificent sunset cruise in Marina Del Rey.
You’ll get a private table where your choice of chef-made dinner will be served, as well as a scrumptious dessert. Don’t stress if you have dietary requirements, the team onboard is very accommodating.
If you are up for a drink, these can be ordered along with your dinner. There’s no better way to spend a romantic evening in Los Angeles. While this may be one of the most expensive boat rides in Marina Del Rey, it is certainly worth it as you’ll take in breathtaking views while enjoying a delectable meal.
My favorite part of this trip:
the glow of the city lights on the horizon as you sail gracefully across the water. The DJ onboard also set the mood with great music as a backdrop to a wonderful evening.
Marina del Rey: Luxury Boat Cruise with Wine & Cheese
If you are looking for something a little more casual, then this cruise allows you to hop aboard an electric Duffy boat and cruise around the marina. The captain will take to some of the hidden locations inside the marina for an extra bit of fun.
While you enjoy views of the tranquil harbor and spot sea lions frolicking in the water, you will be treated to a wine tasting along with a charcuterie board that contains meats, cheese, and fruit for your enjoyment.
While this is still a luxury cruise, it is a lot more casual and feels like having a picnic with friends rather than a fancy experience. It also comes with a much more affordable price tag than the luxury dinner cruise, so it’s easy on the pocket.
My favorite part of this trip:
enjoying the natural wildlife and sea lions playing in the water. The casual atmosphere made it a dream.
Marina Del Rey: Kayak and Paddleboard Tour with Sea Lions
This tour is great because it allows you to get up close and personal with the marina. You can choose whether you want to venture out on a paddle board or kayak, I suggest choosing whichever you find easiest to maneuver.
You’ll then be taken around the marina to all the hidden spots. It’s the biggest marina in Los Angeles, so don’t worry, you’ll have plenty to explore. You are likely to see sea lions and dolphins, along with a handful of other marine animals.
This can be a strenuous bit of exercise so make sure to eat something substantial before embarking on this tour. You will be fitted with a lifejacket to keep you safe at all times. Remember to pack your sunscreen, especially during the hotter months as the sun’s reflection on the water can cause a nasty burn if you are not careful.
My favorite part of this trip:
was feeling close to nature and being able to take a dip in the water when it got a little too hot.
